How
We Work
What is like to work with Functional Synergy's Yoga for the Desk Jockey program? On this page we'll tell you the kind of results our clients have reported and we'll also give you a sense of our guiding beliefs, approach to corporate health and wellness projects and how we are different than most yoga teachers and stress management consultants.
Expected Results:
When you work with us you can expect to see desirable and sustainable changes in your ability to focus, handle stress and pain levels while at work. As a side benefit, you will notice yourself being able to "leave work at work", more able to enjoy your life at home with less complaints and more "presence".
You will know how to release the pain in your neck, shoulders, between your shoulder blades and your lower back. So whether you are working 4, 6, 8 , 12 hour days, you'll know what to do for your body to relieve your pain.
You'll become more present, more focused, and more able to do the tasks that need to be done in the time frame they need to be done in. You will be less ruffled by distractions, from interruptions, your boss' tantrums or deadlines.
You will know how to set up your workstation to suit your needs. You'll know how to adjust your chair, keyboard tray, and computer monitor. You'll know whether sitting on a ball is a good fit for you or not, and how to set yourself up if working with a laptop.
You'll be able to handle curve balls that are part and parcel of a day at work with less stress, less fear, and more ease.
You'll have clarity and focus along with a firm understanding that relaxation leads to greater productivity.
You'll be able to adapt to wherever you are working. The tools you learn are transferable to your car, on the plane, and anywhere you are working.
You'll know how to not run off of adrenalized fatigue - that "nigglin' and pervasive feeling of running on empty all of the time. Instead you will know how to work with your "real" energy.
Guiding Beliefs and Values: Our Approach
Customization: Different clients need different things. Although we have several service modules (see services) that address primary issues, we approach each situation with the same attitude - above all, how can we enable you to have less pain, strain and more focus and ease while at work.
Education: Yoga for the Desk Jockey™ is primarily an educational business, teaching people techniques and strategies to relieve the aches, pain and strain that is inevitable with working in front of a computer.
So far, I have taught Yoga for the Desk Jockey™ by way of "live" workshops within corporations and organizations. I have also created the free Yoga for the Desk Jockey™ ezine to give a monthly bite of yoga, meditation, breathing, or ergonomics as it relates to being at work. Over the next few months I will be creating a few more ways to bring Yoga for the Desk Jockey™ to you, especially to the folks who live far from a "live" workshop venue.
Easy to learn and Simple to Apply: I like simplicity. You often can find me drawing models and diagrams to make a complex concept easy to understand and apply. I want you to be inspired to take these concepts into your life at work and experience the feeling of ease and wellbeing for yourself.
Come from Experience: As a writer and business owner I spend much of my day in front of a computer. I know what it feels like to sit for long periods of time, and to juggle the day to day activities of running a successful business with a team of teachers and administrative staff. I teach what works, so that it makes sense to you.
How we are Unique
What makes Yoga for the Desk Jockey™ different is who the information is delivered by and how it is delivered.
The yoga industry is sometimes perceived as being flakey and wishy-washy. Having been in chronic pain when I was in my late teens and twenties, and having gotten over it using yoga; plus the blend of my over 10 years as a yoga enthusiast and teacher, ergonomics consultant, writer, successful business owner and entrepreneur has given me the understanding of what works and how to share it so it makes sense to the western mind.
I do what I teach. I don't work with theory, but rather, hands on approaches that have proven to work. My approach to teaching is so personalized that people quickly learn what they need to do to take care of their physical body and how to not be in pain while working in front of a computer.
